[image description: anon question to @followmeup saying: “so how come you’re all normal and not sad now. are you puttng [sic] it on?” followmeup’s response is: [Oh my god. Are you for real? Are you for fucking real?”]
trigger warning: depression, assholism
hey anon.
i hope you don’t mind i put your ridiculous and disrespectful ask in rebloggable format (and admittedly, a little late because i’m in class) because i’d like to answer you even though i’m not the one you’re choosing to attack.
people with depression are trying to survive in this world, and often times that means that you put on a happy face and try to convince yourself you’re happy. if you google “hiding depression” the first results that come up are about people asking how to hide it. proven yet?
it’s easy, especially on the internet, to type a smiley face and try to convince yourself you’re ~~~OKAY~~!@@!!!! look at me! LMAO OH MY GOD COLIN MORGAN YOUR FACE IS AMAZING LET ME SQUISH IT AND HUG YOU!!!! do you have any idea what my face looks like right now? no, and if you thought you did… you’d be wrong. i am not smiling. i am not even reacting. typing is far different from how one feels.
this is an important thing to understand for everyone about depression and the internet. the internet, especially blogging sites like tumblr, can be an outlet for depression (e.g. a place to put our emotions and express them without fear of judgement or retaliation etc), but it can also be an escape (e.g. a place to reblog pictures and gifs and forget for a while that we feel empty, or we feel depressed, or we feel angry, or the way that we feel in however our particular depression has manifested itself.) and i mean this towards everyone: we’re not necessarily magically okay just because we stop talking about our depression (and/or anxiety. i’m using depression right now as an example, to be clear). sometimes we want to forget about it.
sometimes, it just means we don’t want to think about our own heads for a while. so you suggesting one of two things: that kavita is either putting her happiness on (possibly) or that she’s putting her depression on (bullshit) is disrespectful either way. and you reminding her that she was upset, whether it was “putting it on” or not, is ridiculous. you just lost a ton of points, anon.
i’m not putting myself coherently but here’s the tl;dr: you don’t have a right to ask that question no matter your intent.](http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lty3dimfAe1r3i23mo1_500.png)
